read this and then go take a hike.
08.17.2010 Ok, I just went on my first "physical" adventure in quite some time (and yes, I woke up really sore!) I went on a hike to the Ojai Punch Bowls with a few of my friends whom I go "way back" with. Anyways, it was really fun, but nothing what my friend Laura and I expected. I don't know if it's going to be my new hobby, but I kinda, sorta, recommend going on a hike if you want to get in shape/stay in shape. Follow this advice and prepare accordingly!
Tips that will prevent you from looking like a city girl... which isn't a bad thing, just not for this type of situation.
- Wear proper shoes: if you are going to start hiking often, I would suggest investing in some good trail shoes. I was wearing my old Nikes and they just didn't do the trick. Poor things are now soaking wet and retired.
- Lather up: Wear your sunscreen and then reapply your sunscreen! I'm pink...not in the singer sort of way either.
- Bring food! Poor Laura and I, we thought we were gonna be gone for about 2 hours. NOPE. Thus we were starving and were begging the guys to share (thankfully they did!)
- Trust yourself: If anything, don't second guess yourself. The minute to "over think" or question your next step, you will fall (just like I did. ALOT)
- Hydrate: Bring as much water and you can hold! I was like a panting dog by the end of the hike. And we all know what sharing can give you (cough cough on my part) thus once I finished my water, it was gone!
- DO NOT JUMP IN WATER WITHOUT KNOWING THE DEPTH (obviously we followed this, or we'd be dead)
- Bring a camera: who knows what you'll see.
- Get over the fact that your Iphone map won't help you find the way
- Note to self: just because its called a "hike" doesn't mean there is going to be a trail.
- Hat and sunglasses = a must
- Try your best not to complain. No one cares.
- Know what poison oak and rattle snakes look like
- Make friends with the other hikers. We met everyone from the English to a dachshund in a life vest.
- Jump in the jacuzzi for a well deserved soak.
- Did I mention hydrate? Do it for the rest of the day.
so thanks guys for the... adventure?

Hello I just discovered your blog through a link to thektchen and I have to tell you that I really like this dish, I cannot seem to find farro here but I used pearled barley and the results were excellent, so much so that this salad needs no dressing, thank you for a great recipe and a lovely site.-luxury Givenchy watches
